Here’s Why I Binged Carole and Tuesday this Weekend

Hello everyone! I just got through Carole and Tuesday and I really wanted to share my thoughts on it. It’s such a new series on Netflix, it literally came out on Friday and I started watching it on Saturday.

So, let’s get into it.

Carole and Tuesday

Netflix is always coming out with some new originals, most of which I ignore. Then again, there was something about this one. Maybe it was the way they targeted their ads. Netflix is really good at that. Seeing a black girl as the main character of an anime drama was definitely compelling. If I’m being completely honest, it’s the main reason I clicked on it.

So, I decided to give the first episode a chance. I haven’t watched anime since Attack on Titan left me with a years long wait for Season 2. By the time Season 2 came out, I wasn’t even interested. Maybe I’ll revisit that series again.

Anime is so much more than One Punch Man and Dragon Ball Z. Carole and Tuesday shows the contemporary side of anime. It’s a story of two girls who are trying to break through in a music industry that’s basically ruled by AI. It takes place in a not so distant future in which many humans now live on Mars. Artificial Intelligence is also a big part of that future. It’s taken most of the jobs that were once thought to be only human.

The plot was pretty good. The journey of these girls first finding one another, then creating songs and trying to get famous was amusing. Carole and Tuesdays personalities are different in a good way. They have a lot of depth as characters and I love that.

The animation style is wonderful! The opening scene where they’re playing the song “Kiss Me” is so beautiful. It reminds me of an impressionist painting. It’s very pleasing to the eye.

The representation was on point. It was cool seeing anime with POC representation and it not being The Boondocks. There was also LGBTQ+ representation too. Carole and Tuesday is a super inclusive show.

I definitely want to see more of Carole and Tuesday in the future.
