5 Tips for Blogging Consistently

Published by

on

I was inspired to write this post because of one of New Lune‘s blogging posts. I’ve had this blog for over three years now and I haven’t taken consistency seriously until this past summer. Here are some tips that have helped me stay (relatively) consistent.

1. Blog about things you’re passionate about.

We all have our niche. I’ve found mine in reviewing. I love writing about things, dissecting books, TV Shows, and Movies. English Literature and Comprehension was my favorite class in high school. This is my niche.

Don’t try to be like everyone else, don’t go for subjects that look more popular just for the sake of popularity. If you want to be consistent, you’ll have to enjoy what you’re doing.

2. Start multiple drafts.

At any given time, I try to have at least three drafts in the making. Whether they’re tags, reviews, or just random posts, I try to make sure I have at least started it. Having a title, and maybe a paragraph, helps remind me that it needs to be finished at some point.

3. Jot down ideas.

If you think of an idea for a post, jot it down. You can do this by having a special blogging journal for your ideas, or just using your phone. I’m constantly writing down things I think of just in case I can use it at some point.

4. Use the scheduling tool.

This has been a lifesaver for me in terms of staying consistent. I try to have my Friday and Saturday posts scheduled a week in advance or more in case I get busy throughout the week.

5. Set realistic goals.

Starting a blog and promising to post every day while taking classes in school and having a job just isn’t realistic. If you’re just starting, don’t worry about quantity. Just try to post an amount that works for you, like once or twice a week, and setting goals.

Do you have any blogging tips?

What helps you stay consistent?

Planning blog topics several months in advance helps keep me consistent. Like you, I try to have drafts of several blog posts in progress all the time. When I fail to do that, I tend to panic when I realize I’m up against a deadline — even though it’s a self-imposed deadline. My first blog post every month is about the books I read the previous month. This keeps me on my toes with my reading and is generally my most popular post each month.
