5 Reasons to go see Just Mercy (Movie Review)

It finally happened y’all! I got to go see an advanced screening of Just Mercy starring (my future husband) Michael B. Jordan. Must I say, this movie is a must-see! It was so good!

But if you aren’t already blown away by my totally unbiased opinion, check out these five reasons to go see Just Mercy.

1. The Acting is Phenomenal

Come on now, when you have headliners like Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, and Bri Larson you should know that you’re in for a show. Then you put them all together while adding an extra dose of court case drama and you have quite the film.

2. The Story is Well Paced

There weren’t any dull moments with this film. It also didn’t feel like things were being rushed. I personally enjoyed the pacing of the film and felt like it really drew me into the story. It kind of reminded me of the Malcolm X film in some ways.

3. It’s a Good Way to Spend a Girl’s Night

I was invited to the early screening through my school’s chapter of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) which I am a proud member of. This shouldn’t come as a surprise with the way I support black women.

It was fun sitting with a friend to enjoy the movie. After it was over, we met up outside and could not stop talking about it. We talked about how real it was and the way things like this impact our communities. We even talked about how we could address topics like these on campus. It was nice to see the conversation go farther.

4. Just Mercy Showcases Modern Day Heroes

Just Mercy was the first time I heard about Bryan Stevenson and the impact he’s had on the numerous lives. He’s been exonerating people who were wrongfully imprisoned from Death Row for over 30 years. That’s amazing and I’m happy to see that his efforts are being acknowledged.

5. It’s All Based on a True Story

It’s one thing to know that the US prison system is jacked up, it’s another thing to see it on the big screen. To hear these stories and know that this is the kind of stuff that happens to people every day, disproportionately affecting people of color. Most of those people of color are black and Latinx men. Do you see the problem here?

Thank you for checking this post out! Just want to point out that this isn’t an ad, I just really enjoyed this movie and hope that a lot of people check it out.

I tried this several years ago and had a terrible time with getting all of it to be straight. I eventually made some shorter, some longer and used that layout.

I hope you check it out! It’s very eye opening and adds a more personal touch to just how difficult the US prison system makes things

The movie trailer looks absolutely amazing! I’m not a huge movie person but I can’t wait to watch this one. I’m currently trying to decide if I should read the book first or watch the movie. The cast is really great so I’m very excited about this one. I’m hoping that a lot of people see this and really recognize that the prison system is really bad and needs to be changed.I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie with Michael B. Jordan before so I’m excited to see him in action.

I actually didn’t read the book before going to see the movie, which is rare for me but I love things based on true stories and I didn’t want to let the opportunity go. I LOVE Michael B. Jordan, he’s such a talented actor and I also love the way he’s been expanding into directing too πŸ™‚ I hope you enjoy the movie!

When I watched the trailer, it looked like a really powerful movie, so, I am very glad you had a good time watching it. Even if your opinion might be a teeny tiny bit biased (we all have that one actor/actress we adore and would watch anything with), I totally believe your enthusiasm!
