Top 5 Tuesday – TOP 5 ANTICIPATED BOOKS FOR 2020

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by the lovely Shannah of Bionic Book Worm. It’s all good vibes and good times and if you’re on the fence about joining, just try it out!

I’m not really one to keep up with new releases, but there are a few in particular that have caught my eye. Translation: I had three that I was excited for, then checked out what other bloggers were talking about to see what the other two would be. That led me to some pretty fun pages and great new books to add to my every growing TBR.

Anywho, let’s get into these picks!

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo

Clap When You Land is definitely my most anticipated novel of 2020. I fell in love with Elizabeth Acevedo’s poetry in high school. I fell in love with her novels in 2020. Both of her novels are sitting beautifully on my bookshelf and I can’t wait to add this third one.

Stamped by Jason Reynolds

Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, And You - By Jason Reynolds & Ibram X Kendi

Y’all know I’m a big Jason Reynolds fan so this should come as no surprise. I haven’t read nonfiction in a little while now but this looks like it’ll be more unconventional take on society and race.

Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

I’ve seen this floating around book blogs and Goodreads for a while now. I finally read the synopsis and now I’m realizing that this is right up my alley. I mean, civic duty, family conflict, and a side of subtle romance? Sign me up!

Sidenote: I actually met Aisha Saeed at an April is for Authors event back when I was in high school. I bought Written in the Stars but still have yet to read it. I know, I’m terrible and need to stop what I’m doing and read it right now.

Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown

Black Girl Unlimited by Echo Brown

I saw this on Confessions of a YA Reader and was immediately intrigued. As my regular readers know, I love Black Girl Magic in all forms. This cover is gorgeous and I’m hoping the story inside is even more beautiful. I read Echo Brown’s bio in Goodreads and she sounds like a really cool person so I’m hoping some of that coolness transfers over to me after reading this.

When You Were Everything by Ashley Woodfolk

45144784

I saw this over on Kristen’s blog. I wasn’t active in the blogging community at all in December so it’s no wonder that post fell through the cracks for me. Her lists are always so thorough!

This story talks about friendship and what happens when that friendship ends. I’m a big fan of unconventional YA, stuff that doesn’t focus on just YA Romance. I love stories centered on family, friendship and the ways our relationships affect us. That being said, I’m all for this and it’ll probably be one of my books of the month.

  1. […] When You Were Everything has been on my TBR for a little while now. It came out earlier this year and I’ve been eyeing it ever since I heard about it. I’ve wanted to read a friendship story for the longest time so I’m really excited to get into this one. It’s not something discussed enough in YA so I’m excited to see When You Were Everything getting so much attention. […]
