Hey y’all! I feel like I’ve been talking about The Reading Rush for a while but I’ve made no actual plans. It starts on Monday and I’m hoping to get through several good books.
So, without further ado, let’s get into it.
The prompts:
1/ Read a book with a cover that matches the color of your birth stone.
2/ Read a book that starts with the word “The”.
3/ Read a book that inspired a movie you’ve already seen.
4/ Read the first book you touch.
5/ Read a book completely outside of your house.
6/ Read a book in a genre that you’ve always wanted to read more of.
7/ Read a book that takes place on a different continent than where you live.
My TBR
I tend to choose books that will fit multiple prompts because I know it’s unlikely that I’ll get through 7 in a week. My first pick might even get three.
Check, Please! by Ngozi Ukazu
I’ve been seeing this everywhere and Ally even recommended it based on one of my emojis. I was born in November so my birthstones are Topaz and Citrine. I think this cover fits both of them. I’ve also been planning on getting into Graphic Novels again so that covers #6 and since Graphic Novels don’t take to long to read I’ll try to do #5 with this too. I have some space in my backyard so I’ll try to read it there.
P. S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han
I read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before last year and wasn’t a big fan of the book, but I loved the movie. When the second film came out, I decided to watch it without reading the book (I know *gasp*). The second movie felt really rushed and I heard it was a different director from the first one and that definitely shows. Kimberly Anne on Booktube mentioned that the book was so much better so I’m going to give it a chance.
Gmorning, Gnight by Lin-Manuel Miranda
This was my pick for challenge #4. I don’t have many physical books around me that I haven’t read yet so I took the three that were on my nightstand (from my recent thrift store purchases), put them on the floor, waved my hand in the air, and picked the one that my hand landed on. This was that book. It’s not very long and it has illustrations so I should be able to get through this in a day.
Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan
It feels like forever since the movie came out. I never saw the movie because I wanted to read the book first but I haven’t feel motivated enough to read it. I want to start reading from more Asian authors and I’ve only heard great things about Crazy Rich Asians. This story takes place in Singapore so takes care of #7.
The Startup Squad by Brian Weisfeld and Nicole C. Kear
This covers challenge #2. It was harder than I thought it would be to find one for this challenge. I saw The Startup Squad on a list of middle grade books and I think I’ll get a copy for my cousins but I want to read it first. It’s also pretty short so I could probably get through this in a day. I placed a hold with my library so I’m hoping to pick it up this week.
Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid
This is the book club pick of the year for The Reading Rush and the reason I decided to do it again this year. While I was at the thrift shop, I found this book for a dollar and decided it was a sign. It’s actually a ARC, so I’m guessing someone was doing some spring cleaning and decided to drop it off at the thrift shop. Either way, I’m excited to get into it.
So that covers all 7 prompts. I do plan on reading You Should See me in a Crown but it doesn’t fit any of these prompts so I’ll be focusing on these five books first. Who knows, maybe this will be the year I hit 7.
