WWW Wednesday (#13)

Published by

Hey y’all! This past week has been pretty productive for reading. Don’t get too used to these though. School starts next week and I can’t make any promises after that.

WWW Wednesday is a meme that was formerly hosted byΒ MizBΒ atΒ A Daily RhythmΒ and revived by Sam ofΒ Taking on a World of Words.Β All you’ve got to do is answer these three questions.

What are you currently reading?

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

When Dimple Met Rishi (Dimple and Rishi, #1) by Sandhya Menon

I’m reading When Dimple Met Rishi for the Indian Readathon and really enjoying it so far. Rishi is absolutely adorable and must be protected at all costs. Dimple is a firecracker who I could see myself being good friends with.

I’m Not Dying with You Tonight by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal

I'm Not Dying with You Tonight by Kimberly Jones and Gilly Segal

I started this towards the end of last week and it’s a really interesting story but I’ve come to a realization: I’m really tired of reading books about the suffering of Black kids. Not to say that this is a book about the suffering of Black kids, I just really need some more joy in my reads this week. I’ll be coming back to this when I’m in the right head space for it but right now, I just need joy.

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted by Jayne Allen

Black Girls Must Die Exhausted by Jayne Allen

I started the first few pages and it’s pretty interesting but I’m really in a space right now where I just need some joy so I’ll be continuing on when I feel more comfortable with harder hitting reads.

What did you recently finish reading?

P. S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

P. S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

I tried y’all. I really tried to like this. It just… didn’t do it for me.

Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Get a Life, Chloe Brown (The Brown Sisters, #1) by Talia Hibbert

I read Get a Life, Chloe Brown last week and absolutely loved it! I totally get the hype now. I’ve scheduled my review and it’ll be coming up in a few weeks.

Head Over Heels by Hannah Orenstein

Head Over Heels by Hannah Orenstein

I ended up finishing this in a day, not because it was interesting, but because I put it on 2x speed as I went about getting things done. Head Over Heels was a meh read for me.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I put a couple books on hold at the library and I’m looking forward to reading them. These were both suggestions when I asked for disability rep recommendations on Twitter.

When We Collided by Emery Lord

When We Collided by Emery Lord

I don’t know too much about this story outside of the synopsis. I’m pretty sure it has mental illness rep and that’s something I’m excited to read.

You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner

You're Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner

Again, all I know is the synopsis but this sounds like a really interesting story. The main character is deaf and that’s a perspective I haven’t read before so I’m super excited for that.

How was your week?

I’m so curious about I’m Not Dying with You Tonight, but that’s the conclusion I came to, also. I just want to read about Black kids doing something other than suffering and overcoming it, please and thank you. That’s just my mood right now. Thank goodness, Tristan Strong Destroys the World comes out soon, because I am aaaaall over that. πŸ˜‰

I’ve been seeing Get a Life, Chloe Brown all over the place, and I’m really curious about it now. The FOMO is so strong right now haha.

Exactly! It’s really taxing to take in all that suffering. I really want to get into the Tristan Strong books, they sound amazing!

You should definitely check out Get a Life, Chloe Brown πŸ˜€ It’s so funny and sweet and also pretty spicy (if you’re into that) I’m so happy I gave it a chance because it was a really good distraction from the real world πŸ™‚

I totally get that feeling of not wanting to constantly read about the suffering of marginalized groups, even when they’re good and own voices. I’m reading through Punching the Air right now and it’s *definitely* a heavy one, but there’s still a good mix of hope!

Have you tried You Should See Me in a Crown or the Voting Booth? I’ve heard those two are pretty light-hearted reads πŸ˜€

I need to read Punching the Air soon for the book tour and I’m mentally preparing myself πŸ˜” I’m really excited for it but it does get me mentally and emotionally fatigued at times

I read You Should See Me in a Crown about two weeks ago and I absolutely loved it! My review for it is actually scheduled for tomorrow ☺️ it’s exactly the kind of book I needed to read at a time like this and I really want to read The Voting Booth. Romances have been helping a lot 😁

I’m actually more interested in There’s Something About Sweetie because of the fat rep, but I hate reading book series out of order, even if these books don’t really follow each other plot wise lmao

I totally get that, it feels really weird reading the stories and really getting the little references to the other books πŸ™‚ I’ve heard good things about There’s Something About Sweetie but I honestly don’t know the synopsis, I’ll probably pick it up just because of how good When Dimple Met Rishi is πŸ˜€

I think there’s still another book in between When Dimple Met Rishi and There’s Something About Sweetie but I can’t remember the title!

I was a little nervous about reading Get a Life, Chloe Brown because of all the hype but now that I’ve read it I can say it’s definitely deserved. It was such a great story and so fun to read πŸ˜€

I have a couple hours left on my audiobook of When Dimple Met Rishi and I honestly don’t want it to end! I love Dimple and Rishi together πŸ™‚

I laughed out loud at your blurb about “Head Over Heels” felt exactly the same way. All concept, no substance.

Yes! I couldn’t connect to a single one of the characters and it honestly didn’t feel like a real plot, just a means of getting the information out
