Hey y’all! I’m gonna keep it pretty short and sweet today since I have an essay due at 11:59 PM that I need to start.

Top 5 Tuesday was originally created by Shanah @ Bionic Book Worm. She has now passed the baton to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads. This week’s topic is simple enough. Today I’ll be sharing 5 black and/or orange books that I really enjoyed reading.

Queenie by Candace Carty-Williams

Queenie is such a mess but that’s exactly what I love about her.

The Black Kids by Christina Hammonds Reed

Another messy main character because I eat that up for breakfast.

Let Me Hear a Rhyme by Tiffany D. Jackson

I know I talk about Tiffany D. Jackson pretty often but she’s just so talented.

The Boy in the Black Suit by Jason Reynolds

For a book I read YEARS ago, I just can’t seem to forget about it. Please don’t judge me too harshly on that review, it’s from my beginner blogging days.

Beloved by Toni Morrison

This book is so weird! I love it though. It’s honestly a great read for fall.

I just want to end with a heads up that I probably won’t be doing the other challenges this month. I don’t celebrate Halloween and I’m not into spooky stories but I’ll try to check out everyone else’s posts (if I have time between assignments).

Even though messy characters tend to drive me mental, I loved The Black Kids. It was a fab read! Still need to check out Queenie and Let Me Hear a Rhyme (love both covers too). Great picks!

  I’ve always loved imperfect main characters, especially ones that have to learn to be better people within the story☺️ I’ve heard a lot of people who don’t usually like reading unlikeable main characters enjoying The Black Kids and that makes me so happy because it’s such a great, beautifully written story! I hope you get to read both Queenie and Let Me Hear a Rhyme soon 😁

I never see Beloved mentioned on fall or Halloween lists but it’s def one that’s perfect for this season.

I seriously need to read these books. I’m excited to read Queenie and Let Me Hear a Rhyme, both books I haven’t really heard too much, but once I get a chance (when I am not drowning in ARCs or library books), I’ll read them

  They’re both really great! Queenie is a much heavier read so make sure to check out the trigger warnings first but it’s such a great story and I really love Queenie as a character

Queenie and The Black Kids are on my TBR! Not read them yet though because lol so many books to read. Did you see the gold cover they did for Queenie when it won the British Book Awards Overall category?

  Oo i don’t think I’ve seen the gold cover yet but I’ve seen the other colors. I’ll have to look it up 😁 Queenie and The Black Kids were both really great reads for me
