Let’s Catch Up (#33)

Hey y’all! So it was another week without new posts but can you blame me? This holiday season was an interesting one, to say the least. Go on, grab your seasonal drink in your seasonal mug and a seasonal blanket so we can have this catch up session.

Life Update

This week was honestly great. I got my grades back at the beginning of the week and I ended up doing really well this semester. I even got an A in that class I hated so my GPA is right where it needs to be. My undergrad years are coming to an end soon and now I’m looking into what the next step of my life will be.

On Christmas Eve I was super determined to finish editing my middle grade work in progress and I actually… did. I’ve officially finished it which makes me smile just to think about. One of my friends read the first chapter and a half and her comments made me so happy. I’ve sent it to a few other friends who are interested and I’m looking forward to their feedback. I want to start the process of finding an agent in January so that this book baby can come to fruition.

Christmas this year was the most calm it has been for me in a while and I enjoyed it. I finally saw Jingle Jangle and it was so cute. The costumes, set design, hairstyles, choreography, and everything else were all on point. I hope it ends up getting a bunch of awards like Klaus did because you can tell that a lot of work was put into making it.

It’s actually been cold these past few days which is weird for Florida but definitely helped to set that winter mood. It was nice to have the right weather for my ugly Christmas sweater.

Blogging Update

No posts here but I have been posting reels on my bookstagram. One of my videos has been doing very well for some reason and it currently has over 17,000 views which is honestly mind-blowing. It’s wild seeing the reach that content has had and I’m hoping to hit a thousand followers next year. I’ve met so many wonderful book lovers through that community and I love helping people find diverse books.

Things I’ve Watched Recently That Really Made me FEEL Something

Vampires vs. The Bronx

It was so fun seeing the Dominican and Haitian representation. This is the kind of movie that I’m happy exists for this next generation. More of this please.

Canvas

When I tell y’all this 7-minute film had my eyes watering…

Seriously Single

This movie is from their South Africa branch and it was honestly so much fun. It’s one of those movies where you can just turn your brain off for a second and laugh as you watch.

Jingle Jangle

Like I said before, this movie deserves all the awards.

How was your week? What made you smile? Have you seen these movies? Let me know in the comments below, let’s chat!

Congrats on getting that A and finishing your WIP!! I hope your search for an agent goes well 🤞. I only watched the first thirty seconds of the Seriously Single trailer, but I don’t need to watch the rest to know that I’ll love it hahaha. Definitely going to watch it soon 😂! Happy new year!

Ooh congratulations on the grades and that’s amazing about the reel! I just watched it and it cracked me up 😂 I haven’t seen any of those movies but now I really want to, especially Jingle Jangle! My week was okay, I’ve been working on my PhD application and trying not to panic too much ahahah and I’ve also been watching a K-drama with my family so that’s been fun 😊 Hope you have a great week and new year!

Thank you!! It’s an archaeology PhD (specifically human bioarchaeology) and I’m hoping to do more research about the places where muscles attach into the bone, as there’s an ongoing debate over whether you can use these attachment sites to interpret what the person did in life. Lots of conflicting studies hahaha
